St Kilda is an urban breakwater at the end of the pier. The ferry operator cites about 1,400 little penguins on that wall. You are in a city. Traffic, tram bells, and Palais crowds exist. Phillip Island is a dedicated night with viewing grandstands, underground options, and a colony built as a tourism machine. You pay. You drive. You get infrastructure.
If you have one evening after a CBD meeting, St Kilda wins on time. If you have a full day and you want the postcard parade, the island wins on spectacle. Do not do both in one night. The drive does not allow it.
